Hip Hop w/ J-Rock (1 hour): Can YOU kick it? Yes you can! Adults deserve to have fun, too, and you’ll find loads of it in The Center’s NEWEST hip hop class. You’ll also find excellent instruction, a supportive, inclusive environment, and a fresh way to practice self-care. Come to laugh, come to sweat, come to learn! Friday evenings from 7:15-8:15 PM.
Ballet Foundations (75 minutes): The Center’s beginner ballet class for teens and adults! Ballet Foundations offers an engaging, effective way to enliven both the body and the mind, one Monday evening at a time. Gain strength, flexibility and mobility and grace! No prior experience necessary. Ballet slippers recommended; bare feet welcome.
Book and Bar(re): a combination book club, dance party and cocktail hour. A short but robust dance warm up followed by light stretching, adult beverages and low-stakes literary discussion. Each class culminates in a group improv inspired by the evening’s literary analysis (character dynamics, tone, theme, structure….it’s all fair game). BYOBook, BYOBottle…We’ll provide the Barre. Hilarity guaranteed.
Adult Tap (1 hour): Tap into your playful side! In The Center’s inaugural tap class for adults, you’ll develop a working movement vocabulary in one of Broadway’s most beloved and enduring dance styles! Flex your mental muscles along with those in your legs, and get ready to make some noise! No experience necessary; we’re here to have FUN!
Mat Pilates (1 hour): Start your day feeling strong, centered, and energized with this all-levels Mat Pilates class. Designed for adults of all experience levels – from complete beginners to seasoned movers – this class focuses on building core strength, improving posture, increasing flexibility, and supporting mindful movement. Guided through clear, adaptable exercises, participants are encouraged to work at their own pace while developing body awareness and control.
Weekly Flex (1 hour): A ballet-inspired workout designed to develop core strength, lengthen muscles, improve posture and increase stamina. Barre exercises provide a meditative strengthening and toning routine, then it’s down to the mat for some Pilates-based floorwork. Uptempo cardio dance rounds out the hour. Each component of Weekly Flex can be practiced throughout the week, wherever/whenever the mood strikes.
Gentle Yoga (1 hour): This is a welcoming class for beginners and for anyone wanting to open their body with breath and easeful movement. We will stretch, move into beginner asana with props to adjust to your own needs, and then restore with restful poses in the last part of class. All bodies are always welcome. Come move and breathe and roll easefully into your healthier self.
Flow Yoga (1 hour): This class is best for those familiar with yoga, but is open to all bodies and levels. It will be only moderately vigorous. We will stretch and breathe, opening your body to the practice, then begin a warming flow to increase energy and strength. I will provide modifications, adjustments or alternative poses according to your body’s needs so that you are always safe. These are difficult times we are in. When we ground ourselves and build confidence in our capacity to reach and work, we contribute to the potential for change in the world. I will invite mindfulness into the class and into the cues to connect our spirit, mind and bodies.
