Tuesday mornings at 10 AM, ages 0-24 months. $15/class.

Rhythm and Rhyme (45 minutes, ages 0-24 months; caregivers attend) builds upon babies’ and young toddlers’ burgeoning desire to explore movement, as well as their innate love of music. In this community-oriented class, we’ll crawl, roll, hop and bop to the rhythm of timeless tunes and original “movement poems.” Simple, engaging picture books will spark young imaginations while caregivers bond with their children, socialize with other adults, and generally rock out.

Garden of Verses (45 minutes, ages 2-3; caregivers attend) offers a gentle, joyful introduction to creative movement for toddlers and their caregivers. Using imagery, rhyme and song, children are guided through simple yet foundational movement patterns that promote kinesthetic awareness, coordination and focus. Storybook pages spring to life as children reimagine timeless classics and embody beloved characters; props, instruments and costumes enhance the magic. How hungry is your little caterpillar? It was a full house at The Center last weekend! 321 Main St. was (hip) hoppin’ as Center students and community members came together for Shakia Johnson’s master classes. Dancers were introduced to the ABC’s of old school hip-hop in a fun, high energy warm up, AND they learned some of Shakia’s own phenomenal choreography.

A gigantic THANK YOU to Shakia for guest teaching at The Center, and a shout out to Shakia’s fantastic teaching assistants from the Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter Public School!

We are THRILLED to be hosting the talented hip-hop dancer, choreographer and educator Shakia Johnson for 3 classes on February 27th.

These master classes are open to kids in grades 2-12 at the following times:

2-2:45 PM: grades 2-3
2:45-3:45 PM: grades 4-6
3:45-4:45 PM: grades 7+

Cost is $15. Register online through MindBody.com by selecting “Master Hip-Hop Class,” or contact us to register by phone/email. We anticipate that these classes will fill up quickly, so don’t wait!

A Sunday morning session of Word Play, our literature-inspired creative movement class for preschoolers, begins next week, February 21st (10:00 AM). The 45 minute class is open to children ages 3-5. Tuition for this 8-week session is $110.

Word Play (45 minutes, ages 4 -5) In this 45 minute class, students leap, prance and spin their way through the world of children’s literature. Using picture books, fairy tales and poetry, children are introduced to the fundamentals of creative movement and narrative dance. Whether they’re twirling down their own Purple Crayon path, pouncing at the Wild Rumpus, or dancing the alphabet, kids will love this interactive class that honors the reader, and storyteller, in all of us.

Classes will meet Monday afternoons from 3:30-4:15PM; open to kids ages 4-6. Tuition is $150.
