Fancy a flutter with a flamboyance of flamingoes? Perchance a prance with a pride of peacocks? Don’t underestimate that waddle of penguins…their dance moves are cool as ice!
The Center Dance Studio is pleased to announce “Picture This: a Journey into the Wordless,” our Fall ’21 Choreography Lab Series inspired by The Eric Carle Museum’s newest exhibition, Speechless: The Art of Wordless Picture Books. In this very special session of Spinning Yarns, dancers will dive into the pages of Molly Idle’s movement-filled Flora series, and surface with choreography that is all their own. A performance will take place at the end of the 10-week session.
The Center Dance Studio’s Spinning Yarns Choreography Lab introduces students to the language of dance, inviting them to explore movement in a creative, nurturing environment. Picture books serve as entry-points for authentic, movement-based storytelling. Students consider such choreographic elements as space, body, time and relationship as they work together to build dances inspired by favorite texts and their own imaginations.
Our new “mixed ages” session for kids in grades 1-4 is a family-friendly class perfect for siblings who love to dance together, younger kids who bloom in the company of older peers, and older kids who thrive in a leadership role.
When: Mondays from 3:30-4:30 PM; September 13th-November 22nd (class will not meet on October 11th)
Where: Groff Park, in South Amherst
Tuition: $155
